They Lure Us Inside

Our NYC Christmas Department Store Decoration Contest
short list is not too long.

Whizzing by Macy's, through packed Herald Square,
a sharp turn around Lord & Taylor,
by Winter Village at Bryant Park,
through seemingly impenetrable swarm at Rockefeller,
to our 2nd on 5th : Saks.

Comparing to fashion, Noël windows appeared bleak;
long line around the corner of 50th might have a different
opinion.

Past freshly looking St. Patrick, past Harry Winston's icicles,
synching our phone clock with Trump's, to our frontrunner:
Bergdorf Goodman.
A sigh of relief: another Sterling Cooper ("Mad Men") did not take
over their windows campaign.

"The Dozen Windows Show" is on on the 5th, standing room only.

The show must go on !

Looking Up

Those in the wish-to-be-taller category see the world through the breaches in the crowd.
Around holidays shoulders become broader, mob thicker, leaving gaps even narrower.
Face it, facing average dull behind might get equally dull.
Try to look ( + cheer ) up !

A Man

Father’s Day is a minor event on the retail calendar.
A pre-test: how independent are the wallets in anticipation of the “back to school” cash flow ?

Once a year some dusty stuff from remote corners of an average department store sees the light
for a week: there is no such thing as “this season's trendy” … socks. Or freshly rolled cigars.
Or the lighter of the year.

None, however, went as far as to declare fathers more distant: “Farther’s Day”.

To highlight the point, from the farthest corners of our archives, we are bringing forward our tribute to A Man, remotely matching our A Woman.

Searching for light in the darkness ( Part I )

"And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
And God saw the light, that it was good:
and God divided the light from the darkness." (Genesis)

... with 254 shades of grey in between.

Some time after that, another guy - a painter and inventor
Antoine Hercule Romuald Florence - began to study ways
of drawing with the light, literally photographia,
attempting to permanently fix images produced by camera
obscura.

Since then photographers are restlessly wandering in search
of light, for otherwise darkness is upon the face of the deep,
despite sensitivity of the modern digital backs.

We are no different, presenting you with what we found
with the light we found.
